7/15/2010 - SHINDAND, Afghanistan -- The 838th Air Expeditionary Advisory Group held its change of command ceremony at the Shindand Air Base, Afghanistan on July 14, 2010. U.S. Amy Col. Mike Senters was relieved by U.S. Air Force Col. Larry Bowers in a ceremony attended by both coalition and Afghan military personnel.

Shindand Air Base is under heavy construction and, in the future, will be operated by the Afghan Air Force. It will be the only air base in Afghanistan that is a stand-alone air base. Currently the Afghan Air Force operates a military section of civilian air ports. In the comming months Mi-17 helicopters will arrive in Shindand and tactical training of Afghan personnel begins. Training is now conducted primarily at the Afghan Air Force base in Kabul.
